.... for the most part, Jack's goal as stated at the beginning of the book was that he was to pursue truth and knowledge, he needed to leave this alone because it was a pursuit of knowledge, but it had no positive motive behind it, and, as we have encountered in previous books throughout the year and throughout this one, truth is not always a good and noble thing. In this case the truth led to what destroyed the Judge and Jack was pursuing the truth. The Cass Mastern story provides an interesting parallel to the ongoing saga of Jack Burden and Willie Stark. This technique is what John Irving uses to create such a wonderful story, that keeps the reader both interested and entertained. One of the most interesting ironic circles in this book deals with the death of the main character, Garp. .... the name Sixo is not specifically stated in the novel, it can be assumed that it was derived from the number given to him when being bought and sold. The recognition of a person by number is indicative of sub-human status, common to institutions such as a prison camp where efficiency takes precedence over humanity. It is difficult to acknowledge the title Sixo, as a name, as it is more of an enumeration. The names of the other Sweet Home also demonstrate this same dehumanisation through enumeration. The names Paul A, Paul D, and Paul F Garner, are only marginally more acceptable than Sixo .....
