The working class in Russia, as compared with the barnyard animals in Animal Farm, were a laboring class of people that received low wages for their work. Benjamin, formerly Maury, presents a disjointed account of his life between his early childhood just around the turn of the century and up until 1910, mainly focusing on his relationship with his sister, Candace. .... orders without complaining. Henry overcomes his fears and shows courage at the next battle. When the battle is over Henry has changed. He did what had to be done, therefore, he acted courageously. Henry can now look at his heroic deeds, put his sins in perspective, and not feel to proud about one, or too guilty about the other. Henry has matured into a courageous and honorable man. I really enjoyed reading this book. The author, Stephan Crane, did a really good job in describing everything so well. If you haven’t already read this book I would recommend that you do. It is not .....

.... on his grandparents farm. He is blissfully happy when he first meets Antonia. They become great friends and share numerous adventures. Cather uses brief, beautifully descriptive and nostalgic recollections of situations and feelings to increase the pain and sadness of the separations that she places throughout the book. An excellent example of this is the way Cather builds up to Mr. Shimerda's suicide. Mrs. Cather describes Antonia's love and strong bond with her father. Antonia talks of how much he loved the old country, how much he wanted to stay there and live among his friends. She .....

.... In fact, they use it as a way of life. It serves as a learning tool that proved how strong they were and how much suffering they had to endure. When they are faced with problems they relate back to stories, just as this, to find that strength once again. Mrs. Hurston, being a African American herself, should have the right to tell a story of her heritage without being persecuted. The fact that that is how African Americans spoke during that time should not be cause for embarrassment. It is just a fact of how things were. .... obvious of symbolic references in this story is the cat’s name, Pluto. This is the Roman god of the underworld. Pluto contributes to a strong sense of hell and may even symbolize the devil himself. Another immensely symbolic part of “The Black Cat” is the title itself, since onyx cats have long connoted bad luck and misfortune. The most amazing thing about the symbolism in this story or in any other of Poe’s is that there are probably many symbols that only Poe himself ever knew were in his writings.
