History Of The Internet
Number of words: 1398 - Number of pages: 6.... document has to be resent, but then different pieces are missing from the new
copy of the document. This is a major problem and the obvious solution is to
“chop” the information up into smaller pieces and then transmit the smaller
pieces2. Then another problem was realized, how does the computer know
where to put these small bits of information? The solution to that was what has
come to be known as packet-switching (PS). In PS, the entire document is sent
in a bunch of tiny “packets,” these packets contain the information of the
document “wrapped” in its placement on th .....

Response To AOL Controversy
Number of words: 702 - Number of pages: 3.... to the
internet. These same features can be located anywhere else on the net with the
aid of any search device, such as infoseek, yahoo, microsoft network or web-
crawler. These sites are no harder to use and they provide lots of helpful
menus and information.
In Wood's article, he states that he lives in Chicago, and AOL has
several different access numbers to try if one is busy. He writes that often
when he has tried to log on using all of the available numbers, and has still
been unsuccessful. This is a problem for him because he is dependent on AOL to
"do the daily grind of (his .....

Computer Simulation
Number of words: 1699 - Number of pages: 7.... theater-level as
well as to support training events in educational institutions. Designed
and built using modern computer technology, modern software engineering
techniques, and validated algorithms and databases, it will allow units
world-wide to train using their organizational equipment. A key feature of
the system will be its use of technology to minimize the total Army's
overhead associated with supporting training. The system will be designed
to meet emerging Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) standards and
protocols to facilitate linkages with DIS compliant simulators and live .....

Development Of Computers And Technology
Number of words: 3595 - Number of pages: 14.... as well, in 1995 when a normal computer was a 486
computer running at 33 MHz, to 1997 where a blazing fast Pentium (AKA 586)
running at 200 MHz plus. The next generation of processors is slated to come
out this year as well, being the next CPU from Intel, code named Merced, running
at 233 MHz, and up. Another major innovation has been the Internet. This is a
massive change to not only the computer world, but to the entire world as well.
The Internet has many different facets, ranging from newsgroups, where you can
choose almost any topic to discuss with a range of many other people, from .....

Computer Programmer
Number of words: 777 - Number of pages: 3.... would be telling a computer to "reed data", a computer would not be able to execute this command. A simple misspelling of one word, can make a program worthless. Errors such as these must be identified and corrected before a program can successfully accomplish its assigned task.
There are many types of jobs a can do. One is designing programs, or portions of programs. The primary job here is to analyse what the program is supposed to do, and write the code for it. Some problems need to be creatively solved. Most times, a program is so large, that you must work in teams, and divide the .....

Can Machines Think On Alan Turing’s Computer Machinery And I
Number of words: 780 - Number of pages: 3.... to the experiment is that the man will be trying to convince the interrogator that he is in fact the woman.
Turing’s motivation for creating the Imitation Game was not in line with gender issues so, to answer the question, “Can machines think?” the man (given as A) is substituted for a machine.2
The type of machine used is limited to a digital computer. This is by no means a limitation as foreseen by Turing that “in about fifty years time one will be able to speak of machines thinking without expecting to be contradicted”.3
Speaking of machines thinking is one thing but a .....

ITT Trip Scheduling
Number of words: 1411 - Number of pages: 6.... the construction, and the implementation of the new ITT system. I
finish the paper with a discussion of maintaining the system.
The first step in building any DSS is planning. Planning is basically defining
the problem. The planning also involves an assessment of exactly what is needed.
In this case I deal with trip scheduling. In the case description this would
include: How many trips to offer, the days of the week to have particular trips,
and when to cancel trips. Obviously the scheduling ties to other information
such as profit and participation, but for this paper I will only c .....

The Millennium Bug
Number of words: 2136 - Number of pages: 8.... after '99', the only logical choice is to reset the number to '00'.
The year 2000 problem is unlike any other problem in modern history for
several reasons. William Adams points out some of the most important ones.
"Time is running out- the Year 2000 is inevitable! The problem will occur
simultaneously worldwide, time zones withstanding. It affects all languages
and platforms, hardware & software. The demand for solutions will exceed
the supply. Survivors will survive big, losers will lose big. There is no
'silver bullet' that is going to fix things" (Adams 2). "It is too big and
too overwh .....

5 Modes Of Transportation
Number of words: 1431 - Number of pages: 6.... subsystems. The subsystems of railroad
transportation include freight trains and passenger trains. Freight trains are
used to transport goods and materials between cities while passenger trains are
used to transport people. Although freight trains are still used all across the
nation, rail intercity freight has accounted for a decreasing share of the total
ton mileage over the past 30 years. This is mostly due to the increase in truck
transport. Rail passenger traffic had also declined over the years until better
service was offered by Amtrak and the price of fuel increased. Much .....

The Video Game Wars
Number of words: 908 - Number of pages: 4.... new games didn't look much different than the
other two companies'. On three corners of the room, there were television sets
displaying the latest and greatest games for each popular console. While
watching these new games, I was in awe.
When I was younger, I remembered playing what those times considered,
"high tech" video games. During those years, the games had little blocky
characters who looked more like a blob than a human being. The music wasn't
even music at all. It was more of a bunch of beeping at different pitches.
These characters walked around and jumped over .....
