Chemical Bonding
Number of words: 442 - Number of pages: 2.... complete and it more stable. During this reaction light and heat are given off. This shows an exothermic reaction, which is a release of energy. The electrostatic energy between the two holds them together. Ionic bonds are useful because in a liquid state it can conduct electricity. This is possible because it contains ions. That doesn't conduct electricity in the solid state because there is not enough room within the molecule. The substance produced by this bond is table salt. Other salts, such as CaCl (rock salt) are formed in the same way and although they have a different crystallin .....

Plant Breeding
Number of words: 622 - Number of pages: 3.... Plant breeders have a definite advantage over animal breeders, because
they can often produce fertile varieties - indeed, new species - by
crossbreeding between species. This is because hybrids are often polypoid.
Polyploidy, as we know, can occur naturally in the wild. Some species of
cotton that we grow are polypodies that probably arose originally by
accidental crosses between different species of cotton.
But breeders do not have to rely on accidents. They can attempt to
produce fertile polypodies by crossbreeding between different species. One
early attempt to produce another h .....

Fusion
Number of words: 1845 - Number of pages: 7.... is
taking two balls of clay and mashing them into one, creating a new, larger
particle from the two. Now replace those balls of clay with sub-atomic
particles, and when they meld, release an enormous amount of energy. This is
fusion. There is currently three known variations of fusion: the proton-proton
reaction (Figure 1.1), the carbon cycle (Figure 1.2), and the triple-alpha
process (Figure 1.3). In the proton-proton reaction, a proton (the positively
charged nucleus of a hydrogen atom) is forced so close to another proton (within
a tenth of a trillionth of an inch) that a short range .....

Supernovas
Number of words: 1068 - Number of pages: 4.... a stars lifetime, when its nuclear fuel is exhausted an it is no longer supported by the release of nuclear energy. If the star is particularly massive, then its core will collapse and in so doing will release a huge amount of energy. This will cause a blast waver that ejects the stars envelope into interstellar space. The result of the collapse may be, in some cases, a rapidly rotating neutron start that can be observed many years later as a radio pulsar. As a result of gravitational forces acting against the nuclear structure of the core of a fuel depleted star, tremendous shock wavers are .....

Breast Cancer In Women
Number of words: 700 - Number of pages: 3.... among women today. The self exam is a simple exam that women can perform on their own with a few simple steps.
Another way of detecting breast cancer is with a mammography. This is an X-ray that scans in make up of the breast to show whether there are and tumors. This is the most effective type of detection to date. (Cancer Facts, Detection. National Cancer Institute) One disadvantage to using mammography is that with mammography, the x-ray picture sometimes detects substances in the breast that are not recognizable. (NCI ) This can cause unnecessary worrying if the substances are .....

Cd Roms
Number of words: 1257 - Number of pages: 5.... the disk. Once it is on the hard drive , whenever you turn on your computer the information is always there for you when you need it.
A CD:ROM looks like a music compact disk , but they are not that much alike. First a CD:ROM has a lot more information than a regular compact disk. A CD:ROM has audio as well as visual information. Second a CD:ROM stores more data in it. Third if you put a CD:ROM in a compact disk player the compact disk player would just sit there and act stupid. If you put a compact disk in a CD:ROM drive it would play the compact disk you put in it because the CD:ROM dr .....

Fern Life Cycle
Number of words: 780 - Number of pages: 3.... through the wall, as instructed by our lab
manuals. One could also identify the chloroplasts with in the cell. We then put
up our dishes for another week.
The third week of our fern lab we identified the difference between male
and female gametophytes. We did this by taking a culture from our petri dish and
placing it under a dissecting microscope. Due to the male and female being both
located on the same prothallus it was necessary to obtain the exact location of
the antherium and the archegonium from the lab book or the instructor. Once this
was done it was fairly easy to tell the differ .....

The Hippopotamus: Endangered Species Report
Number of words: 641 - Number of pages: 3.... activists are petitioning advocacy groups, including last
week's annual Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species in Florida,
for a ban on hippo poaching. But they say they're a long way from putting an
end to the slaughter." (Howard & Koehl)
The hippopotamus is an enormous amphibious animal with smooth, hairless skin.
Hippos can be found in Liberia, the Ivory Coast, and a few can also be found in
Sierra Leone and Guinea. Hippos used to be found anywhere south of the Sahara
Desert where they could find enough water and plenty of room to graze. Now, due
to poachers and pred .....

Natural Disasters
Number of words: 2589 - Number of pages: 10.... are referred to
as early season and late season. The early season starts June first and runs to
September 10. The late season starts on September 10 and runs to the end of
November. The date of September 10 is the midway point between the two seasons.
This is the date that separates early season from late season. This leads me to
what my research was about. I am writing about the differences between early
season and late season hurricanes and how they effect the variable that were
mentioned earlier in the paper. I feel that late season hurricanes cause more
economic loss than early season hur .....

The Canada Goose
Number of words: 3286 - Number of pages: 12.... Canada Goose can see
three quarters of a sphere without moving its head (Wormer). The Canada Goose
also has an acute sense of hearing, it's ears are positioned on the side of it's
head (Wormer). They have either no sense of smell or a very poor one, but this
does not impede the goose in any way (Wormer). Although there is a large
variation in size all subspecies of Canada Geese look the same physically
(Wormer) The male and female Canada Goose look almost exactly the same except
the female can usually be recognized because it is smaller and less aggressive
(Wormer). Colors also vary but, .....
