What Was The Effect Of The Space Shuttle Challenger
Number of words: 2726 - Number of pages: 10.... the Solid Rocket Booster. One of the main reasons
for the explosion was that O-ring "flexed" and let the gases escape, which
in less than seconds later, caught fire and created the explosion.
Among the other minor problems were those of electrical problems and
faulty gages which were just "overlooked" because the problems were only
minor and they posed no real threat to the safety of the mission or the
crew of seven(7).
11:39:17am, Tuesday, January 28th, 1986. As the Space Shuttle
Challenger soared into the sky that morning, 74 seconds into flight, it
exploded, killing al .....

Slavery: A Justified Institution
Number of words: 1206 - Number of pages: 5.... were ready to fight for their survival with whatever means were necessary.
Proslavery whites launched a defensive against slavery which explained the "peculiar institution" as a positive good, supported, in fact, by the sacred words of the Bible and the philosophy of the wise Aristotle. The moral and biblical justification surrounding their belief that the relations between slave and man, however admitting to deplore abuses in it, was compatible with Christianity, and that the presence of Africans on American soil was an occasion of gratitude on the slave's behalf before God – basic .....

Gender Socialization
Number of words: 795 - Number of pages: 3.... But these
are the stereotypes that are influenced by the parents. A baby child isn't
concerned with his or her gender identity. As the child gets older though,
he or she will begin to develop an identity for his or herself and
establish a personality that reflects their masculinity or femininity.
During early stages of a child's life the mother is the dominant
figure in the child's life. The father plays a limited role until the
child reaches later part of his childhood. It is at this stage that
children begin to try to separate themselves from the clutches of their
mother and e .....

almost as high as the men. But the largest increase was in the age group of 25-
44 years old, w .....

Is Television Good Or Bad?
Number of words: 382 - Number of pages: 2.... are neither entertaining or educational. These shows simply depict "real life" (in the broadest sense of the term) and therefore do not teach or entertain (otherwise life itself would be entertaining!)
I think that these programs should not be shown. Comedy programs, however, make viewers laugh, feel better, and make people generally happier. These programs should be encouraged, instead of the ‘real life’ dramas. Sports programs and broadcasts of sporting matches are very good. With them, fans of the sports can watch only parts of a match, or watch while they are at work. Without these s .....

The American Dream/Promise
Number of words: 357 - Number of pages: 2.... culture, this country would be very difficult to live in. You could have people like the bushmen living right next door to upper class Americans that just don’t want people who walk around pretty much nude right next to them. That then has people of different groups striving for their cultural identity to be shown because they aren’t fitting into the Eurocentric ideal of an “American” culture. Saying that this country is like a tossed salad though is a lot different and a lot more realistic. The salad dressings that hold America together in the tossed salad, are democracy, freedom .....

Gun Control And Freedom
Number of words: 757 - Number of pages: 3.... essentially apathetic when it comes to violence in our country. Especially with the amount of juvenile violence that has been on the rise ever since the 80's, legislators must take stronger action than ever before to show that these crimes simply cannot be committed with impunity. Whether this requires tougher sentences for juveniles or simply better education, the fact remains that guns are the vehicles by which juveniles are venting their anger and frustration. Removing these vehicles may not necessarily mean the eradication of crime altogether, but it will at least cause the number of casu .....

Female Discrimination At The Citadel
Number of words: 772 - Number of pages: 3.... Faulkner; thinking she was male. The war was waged so fiercely, and with such ill will, that when Faulkner withdrew after less than a week, the victorious screams of the other cadets was shown on national television.
Why is it that these male cadets and their leaders are so against the integration of females in the school. According to Bem Sex Role Inventory, people perceive some characteristics as more masculine than feminine and some as more feminine than masculine. Individuals who respond to the scale indicate which items are and are not characteristic of them. People tend to a .....

Juvenile Delinquency
Number of words: 975 - Number of pages: 4.... the law in another community. In some communities, the police ignore
many children who are accused of minor delinquencies or refer them directly to
their parents. But in other communities, the police may refer such children to
a juvenile court, where they may officially be declared delinquents. Crime
statistics, though they are often incomplete and may be misleading, do give an
indication of the extent of the delinquency problem. The FBI reports that
during the early 1980's, about two-fifths of all arrests in the United States
for burglary and arson were of persons under the age of 1 .....
