Underage Drinking: A Big Problem
Number of words: 1055 - Number of pages: 4.... At first glance, this seems
like a good idea because a large portion of underage drinkers, mainly college
students, would now no longer be underage and would be able to drink legally.
Problem solved, or is it? According to Reginald Smart, in 1971 the Canadian
province of Ontario lowered its drinking age from 21 years to 18 years, thinking
this would help alleviate its underage drinking problem. At first, the new age
law seemed to be working. Soon, bar owners complained because the young
drinkers scared off the above 21 crowd, just took up space, and did not drink
as much as the above 21 c .....

Curfews
Number of words: 749 - Number of pages: 3.... is they just go somewhere else to hang out. Teenagers these days will just rebel. We teenagers have a point, why should we go home if a police officer tells us to, if our parents let us go out and we are not doing anything wrong.
Another thing that gets to me is why the curfew law applies to teenagers sixteen and seventeen years of age. An average teenager gets his or her licenses at age sixteen. Usually by the time you are sixteen you are mature and responsible enough to drive and stay out with friends or even family. Drivers go places to have fun and these curfew laws take this opportu .....

Arguments Against The Relativists Theory
Number of words: 2299 - Number of pages: 9.... it is the relativist position which has both negative logical and
practical consequences, and negligible benefits.
The first logical consequence of relativism is that the believer must
contradict himself in order to uphold his belief. The view states that all
ethics are relative while putting forth the idea that no absolute standard
of rightness exists. If this is the case, then what is cultural relativism
relative to? From a purely logical point of view, this idea is absurd, for
in assuming that something is relative one must first have some absolute by
which it is judged. Let .....

The Ku Klux Klan
Number of words: 897 - Number of pages: 4.... activities were directed against the Reconstruction governments and their leaders, both black and white, which came into power in the southern states in 1867.
Dressed in robes with pointed hoods, for disguise and in an early attempt to frighten superstitious Blacks, the Klan launched a campaign of terrorism and violence against Whites and Blacks whom they considered traitors to their cause. The original Klan, which is not to be confused with the groups calling themselves by that name today, was organized in Pulaski, Tennessee, during the winter of 1865 to 1866, by six former Confederate ar .....

The Sociolect Of Teenage Jocks
Number of words: 565 - Number of pages: 3.... of a jock is overridden with abbreviations, such as DL which means
Down Low, slang words consisting of the common Asshole, Bitch or “F*ck You”
and newer slang including words such as phat which means cool or good. A
jock’s body language consists of numerous slang gestures, for instance the
ever popular middle finger would be a good example, along with the flex of
muscles which would show the tough guy’s dominance and power. Structuring
their sentences by using phrases such as, “You gotta’ problem with me?” or “
Come here," illustrates their incredibly simple, seemingly plai .....

The Power Of Language
Number of words: 1272 - Number of pages: 5.... the bad points of
the other position. Propaganda is most widely distributed through public
speaking and use of the mass media. The propagandist speaks in an attempt to
persuade the audience to believe his way. With the support of the audience, the
speaker gains power.
Propaganda as an art of persuasion has been used for thousands of years.
In the fifth century BC, when Pericles addressed his fellow Athenians on the
merits of their city compared to the tyranny of Sparta, he was making propaganda,
even though much of what he was saying was true. Many centuries later, Lenin,
the Soviet rev .....

The Different Ways Of Raising Children
Number of words: 949 - Number of pages: 4.... their children to have more outside activities than just stay at home. In addition, most of the children in Hong Kong have no human rights than the children who are raised in the United States. Traditionally, many parents in Hong Kong punish their children by hitting when they make some mistakes. Because of there are no formal laws to protect the children from getting hit, some parents even hit their children without any reasons. On the other hand, the parents in the United States do not hit their children easily because they all know this is not a way to discipline. There are some .....

the opportunity to be clean when we all know that she doesn't have the same.
She calls hot water a "luxury"(Parker 237). To those living in poverty hot
water is a luxury. The unimpoverished take it for granted and never before
considered it anything other than a basic possession. When the reader hears
that someone else calls it a luxury that they cannot afford, he or she can't
help but feel guilty for having it as a basic possession. Parker also attacks
the guilt of th .....

Down With Community Service
Number of words: 464 - Number of pages: 2.... few days, and I have
come up with some interesting results. It seems that eight out of ten students
that are about to graduate high school are planning to go to college after they
graduate. I also asked them about doing community service. Most of them said
that they would be getting a job, and they would not have time to do community
service. My survey has brought me to the conclusion that students who are
thinking about going to college should not be thinking about doing two years of
community service.
Community service is detrimental to college students. I was talking on
the phone wi .....

The Prevalent Issues Of Surrogate Parenting
Number of words: 1766 - Number of pages: 7.... is a practice that has been known since biblical times. In 1986 alone
500 babies had been born to mothers who gave them up to sperm donor fathers for
a fee, and the practice is growing rapidly.
For this reason there are many questions and doubts that arise from this
subject. Often there are many legal difficulties that come about with surrogate
parenting. In some states the contracts that insure the infertile couple the
baby of the surrogate mother mean nothing. This, in turn, can cause huge
problems if the surrogate mother were to change her mind about giving up her
child. .....
