Juliet develops from a obedient childlike girl to a mature courageous young lady. Her characteristics were mainly forced to grow up and mature through the events she encounters. Juliet is very young at the time, only fourteen. And in many ways Juliet is indeed childlike. In the beginning of the story she seems quiet, obedient little girl, who is ready to do whatever her mother suggests, willing to *like* the man her father has chosen, but only as far as her parents permit it.
