.... Immediately the book draws into her past, relating events leading up to this point, explaining her motives. One gets a definite feel for her character, and settles into her narrative, but as soon as this happens, the book switches gears, turning instead to a vague character, Joe Christmas. With little introduction, or warning, the book reels into Joe's past, catching the reader totally unaware and throwing off the entire continuity of the book. Faulkner's desire for unity and coherence in the pattern is not as strong as is his desire for truth to individual response (Reed, p.123). Thus Lena .....

Although she replaces the role of the mother, there is still the fact that a family member is missing. A mother is impossible to replace; you can’t have a stepmother because she will never be a replacement for an original mother. When Bottom says: "I'll speak in a monstrous little voice," (Iii 43) he surely does not mean a voice which is both monstrous and little, for something cannot be both monstrous and little. What Bottom is trying to say is that he will speak in a "very" little voice. Bottom does not realize what he has said and creates amusing confusion for the reader. One of Helena's oxymorons is in Act 3, scene 2, line 129: "oh devilish- holy fray!" Obviously something cannot be devilish and holy at the same time, and by most people's standards, the devil certainly is not pious. .....

William Shakespeare uses an analogy in the line “It is nor hand, nor foot, nor arm, nor face, [nor any other part] belonging to a man.” to say that Montague is not any part belonging to a man, and that .....

When thinking of this it would remind Holden of the good times at home, this was a time when he felt comfortable and was a memory that made him feel good at almost anytime. And finally D.B. affected Holden by remembering there visits to the movies with Pheobe to watch old movies. "But I didn’t enjoy it much.
