.... in Fossalta, Italy, makes for a very believable novel. Frederick Henry was, like Hemingway, an American lieutenant who drove ambulances in Italy during World War I. He was badly injured by a mortar shell explosion and was taken to a hospital in Milan where he fell madly in love with an English nurse. The young nurse, Catherine Barkley, and he go on to have an almost fairy-tale type of relationship. Hemingway’s World War I experience varies only slightly from that of Frederick Henry. One night while stationed in Fossalta, Hemingway rode his bicycle, while dodging the Austrian .....

I got in a lot of trouble for not doing my work. I complained often about my glasses with no recognition from anyone. It wasn't until that summer when my glasses broke that they realized I had been telling the truth. I went to Lens Crafters, a place that sells glasses in my local mall, and the optometrist informed my grandmother and me that I had a problem. He said his equipment wasn't advanced enough to tell exactly what the problem was .....

"Knowledge spills over like a water from a seemingly inexhaustible fountain."(p146) This is a good use of imagery. By applying this description of endless knowledge to a fountain or waterfall the reader can make a mental picture better allowing him to comprehend exactly what the author is trying to discribe. It is very hard to understand what endless knowledge would be like, so the author puts a picture of a fountain spewing knowle .....

.... job and duty. A woman should act and look "proper" at all times. This is what Edna is fighting against in this novel. She feels that, though many women agree with this "known" rule, it isn't fair. For six years Edna conforms to these ideas by being a "proper" wife and mother, holding Tuesday socials and going to operas, following the same enduring schedule. It is only after her summer spent at Grand Isle that her "mechanical" lifestyle becomes apparent to her. She sees how much she is unhappy with the expectations, held by society, of her life and she wishes to erase them and live her life as .....

.... he claims to be. The conversation between Willy and Linda reflects Willy's disappointment in Biff and what he has become, which is, for the most part, a bum. After failing to deal adequately with his feelings, he escapes into a time when things were better for his family. It is not uncommon for one to think of better times at low points in their life in order to cheer themselves up so that they are able to deal with the problems they encounter, but Willy takes it one step further. His refusal to accept reality is so strong that in his mind he is transported back in time to relive one of the .....

A hog can't show emotions, but a man can.
