Due to a leg injury, Catherine is forced to stay at Thrushcross Grange, the neighboring estate of Wuthering Heights, where she consequently meets Edgar and Isabella Linton and learns to act like a civilized, young lady. In this long poem, Milton describes the beginnings of evil in the world. He tells of Lucifer's fall from heaven and the creation of hell. He also describes Adam and Eve's fall from grace in the Garden of Eden. By giving George the last name of Milton, Steinbeck seems to be showing that he is an example of fallen man, someone who is doomed to loneliness and who wants to return to the Garden of Eden. He didn't agree with the fact that his friend Tom could love his wife while he lusted some other woman. Nicks beliefs were never similar to Tom's, and later he confronted Tom telling his disapproval of his actions. Tom, Daisy, and Jordan showed no affection or remorse after the death of both Gatsby and Myrtle. Huck has a "desire" to turn in Jim a few times in the book. One instance is when they are on their way to Cairo and they think they see it. Huck takes the canoe by himself to talk to this "police" boat that patrols the area. He plans to turn in Jim, but Jim keeps on saying how much Huck means to him.
