.... before the story and plot really develop very much. In the “Devil and Tom Walker” the story goes into a lot of details about how his house is raggedy, ugly, and trashy looking. No man traveling ever stops at their house. His wife hides things, is mean, and a loud-mouth. The story describes how Tom walked through the murky swamp and how he met “Old Scratch” unlike “The Devil and Daniel Webster” when all the story talks about is how his plow broke, how angry he was, and by being angry called the Devil. “The Devil and Tom Walker” has a much stronger development and really trie .....

In the first stage of the book, we may see how a problem, the earthquake, has made the people in the star loose a vast amount of flowers. They lost some of the tranquillity and joy that had invaded their lives. And when they look for a messenger to go find flowers, they’re talking about re-finding the tranquillity and lack of fear that they wanted. I believe that the burials, actually represent life. It may sound a bit peculiar, but in real life once you get accustomed to living a happy, joyful life, you then will .....

.... in the book by wanting the same thing but they have different methods of achieving it. Gatsby wants Daisy, and Myrtle just wants to be higher in society. Gatsby plays the god-like character in this book so his means are good but both him and Myrtle do bad things to get higher in a crowd that will never take them in. To make themselves appear better to the other crowd, they lose some of the moral fiber that was there to begin with. (Fitzgerald, -page 83-) Loss of morals in the 1920' in America caused the American dream to vanish. The god-like character of the book Gatsby, was a good person .....

Two characters fit the description of greed. The characters are Rockhound from Armageddon and Murphy from the Perfect Storm. Rockhound never saves the money that he makes unfortunately what he has left over goes towards his alcoholism. His problem is increased because of the other people who worked around him and the fact that they too were alcoholic's. Rockhound could spend all his earnings in a week compared to Murphy from the Perf .....
