Trans-racial Adoption
Number of words: 2416 - Number of pages: 9.... is whether or not it is in the best
interest of the child. The problem in today's society is that foster care
is preferred over transracial adoption. The reason being the children and
youth services would rather put a black child in foster homes of that race
instead of letting a white couple adopt it because they are white. They
believe that putting a black child in white family would culturally damage
that child, that they would grow up not knowing their heritage. They
believe that a parent of a different race is not as equipped to educate a
child about issues of their racial ide .....

Animal Rights
Number of words: 1337 - Number of pages: 5.... having domesticated animals in the home
is fine as long as proper care is taken of them. As for more controversial issue
like animal research and experimentation my views vary. A few years ago I felt
that any research or experimentation on animals was inhumane and unjust. However
after maturing and becoming more aware of the world, I now feel as though there
are definite ‘goods’ that come from animal research that can not come from doing
tests on humans. This view is by no means one sided. I also feel that there are
some things being done to animals that just should not happen, such as t .....

Gender Role Socialization
Number of words: 682 - Number of pages: 3.... were given to the children based on their gender. Boys were subject to hard labor and tending to the “manly” elements, while girls mastered home economics in chores like sewing, cleaning, and cooking.
Although this society has experienced rapid chance over the past forty years, we still see some segregation in childhood behavior. Growing up for me was never easy. My responsibilities included tending to the housework, helping prepare dinners, doing laundry, and caring for my younger sister everyday of the week. In contrast, my brother’s only responsibility was to mow the lawn once .....

What Life Was Like Before The Civil Rights Movement And What More Needs To Change
Number of words: 481 - Number of pages: 2.... in the Southern states were run by blacks, Northerners, and some Southerners. The Reconstruction governments had passed laws to help blacks get economic and political opportunities. By 1877 the Democratic Party had gained control of government in the Southern states, and these Southern Democrats took away black advances and rights made during Reconstruction. They passed local and state laws that made certain places "For Whites Only" and others for "Colored." Blacks had separate schools, transportation, restaurants, and parks, many of which were dumpy, and poorly put together. Over the .....

Feminism And Gender Equality In The 1990's
Number of words: 2035 - Number of pages: 8.... and evil.
I remember in particular the searing effect on me, who once intended to be
a psychologist, of a story in McCall's in December 1949 called "A Weekend
with Daddy." A little girl who lives a lonely life with her mother,
divorced, an intellectual know-it-all psychologist, goes to the country to
spend a weekend with her father and his new wife, who is wholesome, happy,
and a good cook and gardener. And there is love and laughter and growing
flowers and hot clams and a gourmet cheese omelet and square dancing, and
she doesn't want to go home. But, pitying her poor mother typing away .....

Are Liberty And Order At Odds?
Number of words: 1084 - Number of pages: 4.... If the
citizens of the United States are willing to set a number on the liberties
then we will become slaves in our own country. This country has been
suppressing the liberties of people through their thwarting of protests and
demonstrations that supposedly “posed a threat” to the public. This
suppression has been a violation of the liberties of the people and is
making the American people slaves of the government.
2. Not only do people have the liberty to be kind to others, but
also unfortunately they have the liberty to hate. “One of the hallmarks of
a totalitarian societ .....

Male Relations With Women
Number of words: 858 - Number of pages: 4.... simple." This tactic leaves the girl with all the guilt to deal with afterwards. If she does feel guilty afterwards, the man can say that he told her she did not have to, forgetting that he added after every sentence that he knew it would be perfectly simple. The man pretends that he does not care if the girl does not have the abortion, yet it is really very important to him. He proves to the girl his true feelings when he says, "That's the only thing that bothers us. It's the only thing that's made us unhappy." The man shows his true colors without having to say how he really feels. .....

Cultural Differences Between Americans And Spaniards
Number of words: 833 - Number of pages: 4.... or
authorized work stoppage beginning after lunch and lasts approximately four
hours; normally between 1:00 pm- 5:00 pm , with work resuming at 5:00 pm
and ending at 9:00 pm.. The idea behind Siesta is to escape the torturous
Spanish summer heat during the hottest part of the day. That made
perfectly good sense to me, because I was very reluctant to step foot out
of an air conditioned space during those hot summer days in Spain.
Among Spaniards and Americans alike, I’ve also realized another
important fact; the body’s natural desire to shutdown after the noon meal.
It wouldn’t be .....

Gangs
Number of words: 1466 - Number of pages: 6.... small part time gang jobs. Although these are important factors they are not strong enough to make kids do things that are strongly against their morals.
One of the ways that kids morals are bent so that gang violence becomes more acceptable is the influence of television and movies. The average child spends more time at a TV than she/he spends in a classroom. Since nobody can completely turn off their minds, kids must be learning something while watching the TV. Very few hours of television watched by children are educational, so other ideas are being absorbed during this period of time. .....

Censorship Of Books: Freedom Of What?
Number of words: 1181 - Number of pages: 5.... and should not read. That would clearly violate our first amendment
right. The first amendment, in part states that Americans have freedom of
the press (to publish any material they want.) This also means that we can
access any of these materials. It doesn't mean we have the freedom to
control what others access, that would be referred to as communism.
In Triverton, Rhode Island a middle school class was assigned to
read a book called Go Ask Alice. The book portrays a fifteen-year-old girl
who is trying to overcome a drug addiction. It is written as a series of
diary entr .....
